Startling things happened to 16 year old Michigan-born Midge Miller in 'the last August of the old century' - events looked back upon by Midge grown up who, with her husband and two young sons, is revisiting the ruined English village of Rouklye and the Rouklye Valley, first explored in the company of the decidedly odd Juby Bench.

In his seventies then, Juby returned to England, as he did every year, railing furiously (as always) against a wartime government edict to evict all Rouklye's residents and turn the valley into a military training camp.

A WWII story you haven't heard before, based on the real life English village of Tyneham.
